Curiosity Meets the Past Podcast

Curiosity Meets the Past with Dr. Smiti Nathan. There's an image of a woman looking through a magnifying glass at substrata.

While I work in the academic study of religion, anthropology has played a big part of academic research. Longtime followers will know that I majored in both religious studies and anthropology at TCU. My fieldwork training took place in the Yucatan Peninsula at the Maya Research Program’s ethnographic field school and a dig season with the Bethsaida Excavation Project in Israel-Palestine. This would set the foundation for my theorizing on the anthropology of scriptures as well as my latest methodological contribution, data signification (more on that in a forthcoming journal article in-press).

This all part of why it was a real treat to be on Dr. Smiti Nathan’s amazing anthropology YouTube show, Curiosity Meets the Past. This is a go-to spot to learn about currents in anthropology and archaeology. Dr. Nathan interviewed me about my work and my latest project, Decoding Diaspora: Signifying J. A. Rogers’ Mythic Africa. She is such a generous dialogue partner and also has been schooling me–and kindly encouraging me– on creating YouTube videos.
