On the Mic and Not Playing Games

Today was a hot one the studio but the work, like the beat, goes on.

I interviewed Dr. Susan Asbury (Middle Georgia State University) about her new book.

Susan R. Asbury’s Family Game Night. A massive interdisciplinary study of American Board games from the 1880s to the 1920s.” A quote by Jay Mechling. In the illustration, a family is playing a board game at the table.

Family Game Night displays how board games represent a fascinating chronicle of US socio-cultural developments during the Gilded Age and on into the Roaring Twenties. Asbury helps us understand the material conditions that made possible this form of entertainment possible as well as the politics and proclivities that make the games the thing to do.

I can’t wait for you to listen when the episode drops. I learned a lot from this book.

You can grab your copy from University of Kentucky Press.
