Abstract
This essay theorizes diaspora in light of the framwork known as scripturalization. Using my digital proejct, Decoding Diaspora, I demonstrate how my research team uses data signification as a way of modeling and redescribing the politics of social formation that we see in the Black Atlantic. The essay centers on Joel Augustus Rogers’ Facts About the Negro while comparing them to the work of Zora Neale Hurston and other diasporic examples.
