I first came across Rare Book School on a humanites research listserv. I clicked through the links, perused the website, and filed the url away in my “So Many Good Opportunities, So Little Time” catalog. Unfortuantely for me, that management system has only grown larger and larger. But that is what makes Off-Script so wonderful. It helps me bring fresh eyes to new and old opportunties!

In our coming session, Dr. Sonia Hazard will be sharing about the work of Rare Book School. Hazard is Assistant Professor of Religion at Florida State University and has served as a Selection Committee Chair and Council Member for the Mellon Society of Fellows at RBS.
So what does RBS do? “Strengthening global communities of the book and advancing the study of cultural heritage,” RBS offers advanced students of fields like book culture, print making, digital texts, and media formation the chance to develop their research interests alongside professionals scholars and experts. RBS has a rich slate of programming year-round that occurs in many forms. It’s definintely something to check out.
Rare Book School at the University of Virginia provides innovative and outstanding educational opportunities to study the history, care, and use of written, printed, and digital materials. Through the hands-on, intensive examination and analysis of textual artifacts in seminar-style classes taught by an international faculty of distinguished scholars and professionals, Rare Book School fosters the knowledge and expertise essential to the responsible stewardship of the historical archive in all its richness and pluriformity.
